Hi Ho Silver - Away!
Posted by tour guide on July 18th, 2007 filed in toursLast Saturday we launched the inaugural d/Lux Pony Club trail ride and it was a hoot! 10 or 11 people turned up at Odyssey around 6pm (in SL time) and they were all given a pony. Each pony is magically tethered to the tour guide (me) so that when I move, they follow in a more or less orderly fashion. (two of the ponies seemed to keep trying to hump each other which was a bit embarrassing – a scripting bug that hopefully will be ironed out eventually).
We flew around Odyssey for a while and then teleported over to Clangers Inventions. Clangers is the closest thing you can get to taking acid without actually breaking any laws. Word has it that Clanger is also a close personal friend Brian Eno (unconfirmed). After that we headed to Ars Virtua, where there’s an interesting show about dressing up in RL and a series of RL paintings of furries. I like this show - it turns that old complaint about ‘remediation’ of RL Art in SL on its head.
In terms of serious critical discussion we haven’t really got there yet – we were having too much fun to get down to the serious business of talking about art. I’d love to have known what people on the ground thought when they saw 12 pastel ponies flying by overhead.
I think the next issue for the dLux Pony Club is to start looking making the tours a little bit more rigorous. At the end of the tour last week everyone gave me a bunch of new works to visit and maybe I can schedule them into the tour this weekend. If you have any other suggestions let me know by going to our Open Call page. I’d also like to look at getting people to be guest tourguides and taking us to their favourite sites and telling us why they like them. Again, if you are interested in doing this let me know.
Finally a huge thanks to Cubey Terra who built (bred?) the ponies, to Lythe Witte who trained them (and the tours generally) and Sugar Seville for stabling them at Odyssey. (thats enough cheesy metaphors)
and Anya blogged about the tour!
